How to Go About Air Conditioning Troubleshooting |

|
Although you may not be a qualified air conditioning technician yourself, some of the more basic problems on your air conditioning system can be learned by reading on the internet or just listening to how your system is operating. Therefore, it is good to be acquainted with your air conditioner. It will be enough to have some basic knowledge about air conditioning systems in order to understand the manuals or your service manuals.
1. Problems with the condensing unit may be due to the fact that there is no power or system, the thermostat setting is not set low enough to have the system come on, the mains circuit breaker has not tripped, if after checking all of these, the unit continues not to cool, call your service technician
2. If cooling is not even throughout the room, ensure that your evaporator filters are not dirty, the fan speed is set correctly and that any louvres have been set to evenly disperse the air.
3. If the unit does not cool sufficiently, this may be due to a dirty filter, a dirty evaporator or the fan not operating.
4. If cool air is not produced inside, the condensing unit is operating (Sometimes the condenser will not work due to pressure safety switches in the system), all fans are working, then it could have lost some or all of its gas charge.
5. If the unit is turning on and off, this can be caused by dirty condensing coils which could lead to high head pressure on the compressor; or the system is low on Freon causing the compressor to short cycle, the converse is also true on low pressure, due to loss of gas the systems cooling capacity would be affected and cycle on and off as well).
6. If you find that there are broken parts that need replacing, Please call in a qualified service technician, do not attaempt to repair these yourself
Dirty Coils, fans and coils are a common problem on systems, therefore you should have your system cleaned and serviced regularly. Do not wait until it breaks down before doing a preventative maintenance. |
